About Governing Body
The Richmond Adult Community College Governing Body plays an important role in setting the educational character and vision for the College. The Board approves the annual budget, capital and investment strategy as well as the College’s quality strategy. The Board is the employer of the staff and management of the College.
The Board consists of up to 19 members, and normally meets five times a year, at the start and at the end of the Autumn and Spring Terms, and at the end of the Summer Term. It may also meet on other occasions (e.g. during Governors’ Development Events, which are used to develop the leadership and other skills of the Board and to concentrate on strategic issues facing the College). Governors are volunteers, who receive no remuneration in respect of their service as Governors.
The membership of the Board is made up as follows:
• 14 independent members,
• 2 student members,
• 2 staff members (one from the teaching staff, 1 from the business support staff),
• the Principal (ex officio) who is also the Chief Executive Officer of the College.
Only Governors and senior postholders of RACC may attend meetings of the Governing Body as of right. Others may attend by invitation from the Chair in consultation with the Principal, where their presence is required for the conduct of business, or where the Chair has specifically given permission for the person to attend. The same principle applies to Committees, although non-Governors are sometimes appointed to be committee members.
